This course will give an introduction to the theory of convex polytopes. The course will cover basic facts and properties of polytopes including faces of polytopes, Ehrhart theory, triangulations, zonotopes and tilings. We will also discuss important classes of polytopes (e.g., generalized permutohedra) and how polytopes arise in geometric settings (e.g., in the presence of a torus action). Our main sources for the course will be: -Matthias Beck and Raman Sanyal. Combinatorial Reciprocity Theorems -Gunter M Ziegler. Lectures on polytopes -Matthias Beck and Sinai Robins. Computing the continuous discretely. Prerequisites: Math 5031 and Math 5032.
