Undergraduate Seminar: "Breaking It Down: What to Do When Your Advisor Hands You a Paper"

Paige Helms, University of Washington

Abstract: The process of 'doing math research' can often be vague and a little mystifying. In this talk, we will talk together through my process of unpacking and working through my favorite Lemma in a paper I am reading for my thesis. We'll discuss breaking down hard concepts, finding traction, different reading styles, and even some math! This talk is designed to be widely accessible, but some knowledge of groups would be beneficial.
