Szego Seminar: "Quillen’s Theorem, Stabilization for Hermitian Forms"

Abstract: We will prove a stabilization theorem for real-valued function of complex variables and Hermitian forms, a theorem found by Quillen and rediscovered by Catlin and D’Angelo. The proof uses the expression for Bergman kernel function for the unit ball and basis facts about Hilbert spaces. The main result generalizes to a theorem proved by Polya for homogeneous real polynomials, which was obtained in conjunction with Hilbert’s seventeenth problem.
