Szego Seminar: "Poncelet's Porism"

Abstract: This seemingly innocent classical geometry problem has deep connections to modern algebraic geometry. I will discuss the "correct" solution to the problem, which takes us on a tour through conic sections, projective space, Bézout's theorem, Riemann surfaces, the Riemann-Hurwitz formula, elliptic curves, the Abel-Jacobi theorem, and many others.
