Szego Seminar: "An Introduction to Quantum Symmetry of Graphs"

Speaker: Akshata Pisharody, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: This talk will be an overview of how the quantum permutation group is constructed through liberation of a commutative C*-algebra, and how we can use that same process to construct the quantum automorphism group of a graph. This will tell us whether there are so-called "quantum permutations" or if a graph has "quantum symmetry," and I will discuss what those labels actually mean with regards to the C*-algebra associated with that graph. Some examples of graphs with and without quantum symmetry will also be discussed, along with some methods for determining whether a graph has that property.
