Statistics and Data Science Seminar: "Sense Now Test Later – Hypothesis-Testing in Self-powered Sensors"

Speaker: Shantanu Chakrabartty, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Washington University in St. Louis

Abstract: Self-powered sensors operate by harvesting energy for computation and storage from the signal being sensed. As a result, the sensors do not enough power to support wireless transmission nor is the energy sufficient to support elaborate on-sensor information storage. In this talk, I will discuss some of our recent work in the area of self-powered memory consolidation and how it can be used for enhancing a sensor's storage capacity based on a simple hypothesis-testing procedure. I will discuss specific requirements to achieve the optimal capacity to support hypothesis testing, both from a theoretical and a practical point of view.
