Senior Honors Thesis Presentation: "Population Estimation Using Capture-Recapture Methods and its Applications in Rcapture"

Speaker: Sloane Mercer, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: This talk discusses statistical capture-recapture methods for population sizing. First, it provides basic information about capture-recapture methods and initial history. Different types of tags used for marking animals are discussed. This talk focuses on the methods used by the Rcapture package: closed, open, and robust design. Explanations and examples on how to apply the Rcapture package are shown. Although these methods can be applied to any population, this talk will mostly take an ecological approach and focus on animal populations, the most common way these methods are used.
