"The Topology of Isolated Singular Points on Complex Hypersurfaces"and have the abstract on the site (wherever you feel is best!)  Abstract: This is going to be a survey of John Milnor's investigations in his book, "Singular Points of Complex Hypersurfaces", Princeton University Press, 1968. The setting is as follows. We consider an isolated singular point of a complex algebraic affine variety, and then intersect the variety with a sufficiently small sphere. The intersection is a rich mathematical entity. For example all 28 exotic 7-spheres can be realized this way. In this talk, however, we just state some aspects of the topology of this intersection, for example Milnor's Fibration Theorem and Alexander Polynomials of the knots involved in low dimensions.
