Geometry and Topology Seminar: "What is KK-theory?"

Speaker: Rudy Rodsphon, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: The aim of this talk will be to provide a survey the role o fK-theory, K-homology in the context of index theory (with reminders!), and then try to give a flavor of what KK-theory is, besides being a synthesis of the both aforementioned theories, through examples and notable, how localization-type formulas (like the Poincaré-Hopf theorem) can be derived from this machinery. We shall take a historical approach, and will try make the talk accessible to the audience.
