Combinatorics Seminar: "Schur functions and generalizations"

Abstract: Schur functors give a way of constructing the irreducible representations of GL_n. In this expository talk, I will introduce them and explain some of their applications, including Schur-Weyl duality. Then I will mention some possible ways they can be used to generalize certain combinatorial problems as well as ways they can themselves be generalized.
