Combinatorics Seminar: "Combinatorial Species"

Speaker: Miguel Mendez, Universidad Antonio Nariño

Abstract: In this talk we will discuss the main ideas and relevant topics in combinatorial species as a set-theoretical formalization of the combinatorics of exponential generating functions.

We begin by defining operations among species, and illustrating them with examples. We will then show several enumerative results that can be obtained from them. The fundamentals of the combinatorial differential calculus will be introduced, based on the definition of derivative of a species.

We will finish our talk by introducing the concepts of set operads, monoids and Hopf monoids in the context of species.
