Colloquium: A Tetrahedral Approach to Calabi-Yau Geometry
Speaker: Charles Doran, University of Alberta/CMSA
Abstract: Starting from the problem of deforming tetrahedra while preserving the areas of their sides, we will follow our noses and discover a beautiful path to elliptic curves, K3 surfaces, and beyond. Time permitting, we will discuss motivations and applications in physics.
Host: Matt Kerr
Reception to follow in Cupples I, Room 200 (Lounge) from 2:00 - 3:00 pm.
