Colloquium: "Modeling Gene Expression in a Living Cell"

Speaker: Michael Zhang, University of Texas-Dallas

Abstract: Cell is the fundamental unit of life, genes are the conserved generators of cellular dynamics for survival and regeneration under normal environment (hence mutation of genes are the driving force for evolution under changing environment). Given recent high throughput single cell genomics and high precision systems biology technological advances, better mathematical modeling of molecular dynamics at either single cell, population or both levels become possible. I will start by giving an overview of general questions and approaches in this field, summarize some of our own recent works and point out few open problems for future studies.
