Colloquium: "Integral points on moduli spaces"

Speaker: Brian Lawrence, UCLA

Abstract: Mordell's conjecture, now a theorem of Faltings, states that an algebraic curve of genus at least two has only finitely many rational points.  Recent work with Venkatesh gives a new proof of Mordell's conjecture; the method gives some hope of proving finiteness results for any variety (even of higher dimension) that can be realized as a moduli space.  I'll discuss some recent results in this direction.
