Colloquia/AAG Seminar: Syzygies from Hilbert to Mirror Symmetry
Speaker: Daniel Erman, University of Hawaii
Abstract: A syzygy is essentially a relation among a set of polynomials, but this fairly simple notion has a long and rich history, starting with Hilbert’s work on invariant, passing through some major advances in algebraic geometry, and culminating recently in a connection with mirror symmetry. I will outline this history and discuss how it has led to an emerging field of multigraded syzygies.
