Analysis Seminar: "An operator theoretical approach to some two-dimensional inverse problems"

Speaker: Elodie Pozzi

Abstract: In this talk, we are interested in techniques to solve some two-dimensional inverse problems. In the first part, we will define linear inverse problems and describe the resolution of inverse problems with the sources located on the boundary of the domain. The second part will be dedicated to the resolution in 2D of an applied question in paleomagnetism: how to recover the moment of magnetization of a thin rock sample given measurements of the magnetic field. We will phrase this question as an inverse problem that can be resolved using a class of approximation problems called bounded extremal problems. We give an approach to build an approximation of the moment of the magnetization. It is based on a joint work with J. Leblond (INRIA Sophia Antipolis, France).
