Analysis Seminar: Continuity and Equivariant Dimension
Speaker: Benjamin Passer, Naval Academy
Abstract: For an action of a group on a C*-algebra, the local-triviality dimension is a measurement of the complexity of that action. In particular, if A has low dimension and B has high dimension, then there is no equivariant map from A to B. As many examples of C*-algebras come from continuous fields, I will discuss how the local-triviality dimension behaves for fields, especially the relationship between the dimension of a continuous field and that of its fibers. These results clarify the relationship between the local-triviality dimension and freeness of an action.
