Algebraic Geometry Seminar: "Intersection Theory and Schubert Calculus"

Speaker: Devin Akman, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce a fundamental object of intersection theory, the Chow ring, with an eye toward enumerative geometry. I will then describe how understanding Schubert classes in the Chow ring of a Grassmannian allow us to answer questions such as: how many lines meet four general curves in P^3?
