Algebraic Geometry Seminar: "On Chow quotients"

Patricio Gallardo, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: The Chow quotient is a technique for compactifying moduli spaces by considering degenerations of the relevant orbits.  Examples include the moduli of n hyperplanes in projective space and the space of complete collineations.  In this talk, I will describe the basic properties of the construction, and new examples constructed in joint works with Noah Giansiracusa and Kenny Ascher.
