Introduction to Topology and Modern Analysis

The textbook is: TOPOLOGY - 2/ed, by James R. Munkres (Prentice Hall).

Topics. The course will contain the basics on general topological and metric spaces. The main topics are: metric spaces; connectedness and compactness; countability and separation axioms; complete metric spaces; product topology and the Tychonov theorem; Baire spaces and dimension. We will cover, roughly, the material corresponding to chapters 2, 3, 7, 8 of the textbook, as well as and parts of chapters 1, 4, 5, 6.

Prerequisites: Math 411.

Homeworks and exams: There will be weekly homework sets, worth 30% of the final grade, one midterm exam, worth 30%, and a final exam, worth 40%. The dates are as follows:
