Topics in Algebra I: Algebraic Groups

Mathematics And Statistics 537 - Fall 2020

This course is an introduction to linear algebraic groups and their Lie algebras. We take an example driven approach to this theory, using the classical matrix groups as illustrations throughout the course. The first portion of the class will focus on the structure theory of algebraic groups, particularly that of reductive groups. We will then study the structure of flag varieties and highlight connections with combinatorics.
