About the Department
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is dedicated to teaching and research. Our research falls into five broad categories: Algebra & Combinatorics, Analysis, Geometry & Topology, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics. Our faculty have a deep passion for their research, which they share with one another through collaborations and with students through mentoring. Our faculty and students also engage in fruitful collaborations with the School of Engineering & Applied Science, the School of Medicine, and departments across Arts & Sciences.
We strive to make our department an exciting place both to learn and do research in mathematics and statistics. We have regular seminars and colloquia with lively participation from faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and visitors, and we seek opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff to interact in productive ways.
New Major in Mathematics & Computer Science
The School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) and the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) developed a new major that efficiently captures the intersection of the complementary studies of computer science and math.
