Third Year Candidacy Requirement: "Finite element exterior calculus and nonconforming methods"

Abstract: The theory of finite element methods has been revolutionized by application of tools of exterior calculus in the framework known as Finite Element Exterior Calculus. We will discuss finite element methods briefly and outline some of the highlights of finite element exterior calculus before exploring a nonconforming variation of the finite element method within the framework.
