Colloquium: "Matrix algebras are like posets"

Speaker: Nik Weaver, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: There is a surprising analogy between nilpotent matrix algebras and finite posets.  I will explain the origin of this analogy in the physics of finite quantum systems and prove matrix algebra analogs of two basic theorems about finite posets, Dilworth's theorem and Mirsky's theorem.

Host: John McCarthy

Tea will be served at 3:45pm in room 200
