Analysis Seminar: "Techniques for bounding commutators"

Speaker: Tyler Bongers, Washington University in Saint Louis

Abstract: The $L^p$ bounds of commutators can be used in many contexts to classify BMO spaces, going back to classical work of Coifman, Rochberg, and Weiss. In many cases, commutators of functions and singular integral operators (such as the Hilbert or Riesz transforms) are bounded if and only if the underlying symbol has bounded mean oscillation. In this talk, we’ll cover some motivation for and properties of commutators; we’ll then discuss new techniques for studying commutators in weighted settings or new geometric settings. This work is joint with Zihua Guo, Ji Li, and Brett Wick.
