Algebraic Geometry Seminar: "Indecomposable K_1 Classes on a Surface and Membrane Integrals"

Speaker: James D. Lewis, University of Alberta

Abstract: Let X be a smooth complex projective surface. It started off as a problem investigated by Spencer Bloch and Phillip Griffiths some 45 years ago, as to whether certain higher algebraic cycle (K_1) classes on X could be detected by associated membrane integrals involving holomorphic 2-forms on X.  It turns out that we can say a lot more about this now, hence the title of this talk.
