8/29 - 9/2 |
Recommended:
Look at the material recommended in Required background for the course
Monday:
Take the diagnostic tests for algebra and analytic geometry at
the front of the textbook: pp xxvi, xxvii. You don't need to do
every problem, but be sure you do enough to see if you're comfortable
with the material
Wednesday: Take the diagnostic tests for functions and for tirgonometry at the
front of the textbook: pp xix and xx. You don't need to do every
problem, but be sure you do enough to see if you're comfortable with
the material.
The
Residential Peer Mentors (RPMs) at Cornerstone should be prepared to
help you with questions about any of this background review.
If
you're uncomfortable with a significant part of the materials above,
you might want to consider taking Math 100, Foundations for Calculus
instead of Math 131. _________________
Assigned Reading for the Week: Sections 2.1 - most of 2.3
Suggested Problems from textbook:
Sections 2.1-2.3
Section 2.1: 1,5, 7
Section 2.2: 5, 7, 9, 11, 15, 17, 33, 39, 41, 43
Section 2.3: 1
Less urgent but probably useful:
Read over the document What is Calculus About? Also, quickly
read the Preview of Calculus on pp. 1-7 in the text. Don't worry if you don't
understand everything: the point is a general overview, not details.
Read the first two pages of Lies My Calculator Told Me
