GRADING POLICIES FOR MATH 233, FALL 2001

Each of Exams 1 -3 will count 19% toward the final course grade while the Final Exam will count 28%. The remaining 15% will reflect homework grades. If E1, E2, E3, and F are your four exam scores and H is your final homework score, each scaled to 100, let

T = .19(E1 + E2 + E3) + .28F + .15H

Then your letter grade for the course will be determined by the following scale:

A	T >= 86
B	86 > T >= 73
C	73 > T >= 60
D	60 > T >= 50
F or NC	50 > T

Pluses and minuses on passing letter grades will be assigned when T is within 1 of the top or bottom limit in the indicated range. For those taking the course pass/fail (or credit/no credit), T will need to be 60 or above in order to receive a pass (or credit). It's possible that, at the end of the semester, the instructors may decide that it's appropriate to use a slightly more lenient scale or to make other changes benefiting students. It's certain that your grade will not be lower than that predicted by the above table.
